UK's maritime supply chain stakeholders meet on port congestion

Feb 3, 2008 Shipping

Stakeholders from across the maritime supply chain met on 31 January to discuss UK container port congestion.  The group, which included shipping lines, terminal operators, freight forwarders, hauliers and shippers, held a highly productive session, sharing perspectives on the challenges all will face through 2008 and beyond.

The meeting, which was organised and hosted by the Freight Transport Association, agreed that congestion at container ports will continue to be a serious problem in the UK for the foreseeable future.

The group acknowledged that ports congestion in the UK was unsatisfactory in comparison to competitors in Europe.  At the same time levels of efficiency in the UK required improvement and the group determined to take appropriate action to make such improvements.

The group will meet again in the near future to try to work together to improve the sea freight supply chain to the UK.
