DHS seeks COAC candidates

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is seeking applicants from the import-export industry to serve on the Commercial Operations Advisory Committee in 2009.

The federal advisory committee provides DHS and the Treasury Department with industry perspectives and recommendations on border measures that impact commercial activities. It meets on a quarterly basis. Members serve two-year terms with a limit of two consecutive terms.

An announcement published in the Federal Register said the commissioner of Customs and Border Protection would select the appointees, subject to approval by the secretary of homeland security.

Among the potential issues on the agenda for the 11th COAC are supply chain security, Customs modernization and automation, commercial enforcement, intellectual property rights enforcement, trade facilitation, northern and southern border transit and strategic planning.
