The Danish Trafikstyrelsen has awarded Nordic Ferry Services A/S the contract for the ferry service to Bornholm, for the period from September 1, 2011, to August 31, 2017. Nordic Ferry Services will introduce some changes, the route from Rønne to Ystad will only be operated by HSC-ferries – at present Villum Clausen and a new ferry that is 50 per cent bigger than Villum Clausen. The Rønne–Køge route will change to one evening/night sailing, operated by only one ferry instead of two ferries as today. The Rønne–Køge route will increase the cargo capacity from 1,235 lanemetres to 1.500 lanemetres.
Finally the contract has now an oil price clause, that regulates the future rise or fall in price on bunker oil.
Nordic Ferry Services A/S is a joint venture of the present operator Bornholmstrafikken and Clipper Group.
