AN unprecedented campaign by the world shipping community has resulted in the release of two Indian tanker officers from South Korean jail pending an appeal after being convicted of being guilty of the worst oil spill in the country's history.
Jasprit Chawla, master of the Hubei Spirit, and his first officer Syam Chetan, were released after the Supreme Court ordered each to pay a bond of KRW10,000 (US$7,500) and remain in a Seoul hotel and not leave the country without the court's permission.
