The Mina service was launched at Gateway Terminals India (GTI) here on January 10, with the first call by the Hanjin vessel, m.v. Hanjin Rio de Janeiro Voy. 006, Exim News Service reported.

A small function was held on board the vessel to mark the new service, which was attended by senior officials of GTI, the Deputy Conservator in-charge of the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), UASC and representatives of Hanjin Shipping (India) Pvt. Ltd.

Mr S. H. Lee, Managing Director of Hanjin Shipping (India) Pvt. Ltd, felicitated the Master of the vessel by presenting him with a memento, and said that the launch of the new service reflected Hanjin’s commitment to the trade and future in India. He welcomed the other dignitaries present at the function and thanked them for their support to Hanjin’s new endeavours in India.

Mr Arvind Bhatnagar, CEO, along with Mr Peter Sloot Weg, CCO, and Mr Erik Sass, General Manager, Operations, all of GTI, presented the Master with a memento and thanked Hanjin for supporting Gateway Terminals.

This new fixed-day, weekly service is a combination of the earlier mix and Sina services. It features deployment of 9 vessels of 4,000-teu class, of which 6 will be supplied by UASC and 3 by Hanjin Shipping.

The port rotation is: Nhava Sheva (GTI), Port Said, Cagliari, La Spezia, Fos, Barcelona, Valencia, Cagliari, New York, Norfolk, Savannah, Valencia, Genoa, Port Said, Jeddah, Khorfakkan, Jebel Ali, Port Qasim.

Cargo for the US East Coast will be transhipped in Cagliari. It provides a transit time of 22 days to New York. The transit time to the Mediterranean from Nhava Sheva will be faster, with the sailing to La Spezia in 13 days, Fos in 14 days, Barcelona in 15 days and Valencia in 16 days.

Hanjin Shipping believes that the combination of the existing services, mix and sina, and also the introduction of larger and faster ships, will upgrade its customer services by providing more vessel space, wider coverage and faster transit time in both directions covering the US East Coast, Mediterranean, Middle East and North-West India via Nhava Sheva.
