Hanjin Shipping announced yesterday the launch of a new service between the Far East and Red Sea starting from the end of February, 2009. Named RES (Red Sea), this new service will be deploying six of 4,000-TEU class vessels of which three are supplied by Yang Ming and one each by Hanjin Shipping, K-Line, China Shipping. RES will be operating on weekly basis. Hanjin Shipping commented that the introduction of this new service between the Far East and Red Sea will allow the company to broaden the service coverage in the Middle East area as well as make gateway to the northern African market.
RES rotations are Shanghai, Ningbo, Shekou, Singapore, Jeddah, El Sokhna, Aqaba, Singapore, Shanghai.
Meanwhile, Hanjin also said a new service covering the U.S. East Coast, Mediterranean, Middle East, and India has started from January 8, 2009.
This new service named IMU (India, Mediterranean, U.S.) is a combination of the current MIX (Mediterranean, India Express) and INX (India, North America Express) services. MIX runs between the U.S. East Coast, Mediterranean, Middle East and Indian Sub-continent with 11 of 2,000-TEU class vessels of which nine are supplied by UASC and two by Hanjin Shipping. INX operates between the U.S. East Coast, South East Asia and Indian Sub-continent with eight ships; partner carriers including Hanjin Shipping, UASC, K-Line and Yang Ming contributing 2 each.
