Jan 13, 2009 Shipping

JAPANESE shipping giant MOL has announced revised coverage on its Asia-Mexico/West Coast South America network operated with NYK with the integration of two loops, the WL1 and WL2, into a single service called WL1.

Changes have been made to fit volume trends, said MOL liner division general manager TK Konishi. The combination of the new WL1 with MOL's Americas Coast West Service (ACW) connecting Callao, Iquique, San Antonio to points in North America, the Caribbean and Europe, provides quick transit times and quality service.

The new arrangement will add a call at Callao, Peru. Buenaventura, Colombia and Guayaquil, Ecuador will be served via Panama, using MOL's existing Ecuador Express (ECX) service.

The revised port rotation in WL1 is Keelung, Hong Kong, Shenzhen (Chiwan), Xiamen, Shanghai, Busan, Manzanillo (Mexico), Callao, Iquique, Valparaiso, Lirquen, Yokohama and back to Keelung.

The new WL1 service rotation takes effect with the sailing of the Helene S Voy. 4905 from Keelung on February 5. The WL2 service ends with the departure of the Ocean Prosper Voy. 4305 from Xiamen on February 2.
