Yang Ming to raise capacity of East Med service

Dec 22, 2008 Shipping

TAIWAN's Yang Ming Marine Transport is preparing to commence a second East Mediterranean feeder service in January.

The new weekly TIX2 service will deploy two 1,800-TEU ships on a port rotation of Port Said, Istanbul, Haydarpasa, Izmi, Ashdod and Port Said.

The TIX2 is expected to complement the carrier's existing TIX service, which uses a 1,200-TEU vessel ship on a port rotation of Port Said, Ashdod, Mersin and Port Said.

The two services will provide a reliable connection at Port Said with its direct services from Asia to the West Mediterranean or to Northern Europe, which carry East Mediterranean transhipment cargo, said a company spokesman in a Lloyd's List report.

This not only strengthens our feeder network in the East Mediterranean, it also opens up a business opportunity in the area of intra-Europe traffic, he added.
