The advisory board of German carrier Hamburg Sud has named Ottmar Gast to chairman of the executive board beginning Jan. 1.
Gast, deputy chairman, will succeed Klaus Meves in a long-planned move. Meves is retiring at the end of the year.
Meanwhile, Arndt Vespermann on Jan. 1 will join the executive board as its fourth member, serving alongside Gast, Joachim A. Konrad and Heino Schmidt. Vespermann will be responsible for the group's tramp operations, which will be managed by Meves until the end of the year. Vespermann heads the dry tramp shipping division (container tonnage and bulk) of the shipping company Rudolf A. Oetker, a member of the Hamburg Sud Group.
