Ship sinks off Newfoundland

Dec 4, 2008 Shipping

A ship carrying road salt to the small French islands of St-Pierre and Miquelon sank off the southern coast of Newfoundland on Tuesday.

As of Wednesday morning, search and rescue officials said they had found only an empty lifeboat, and none of the four members of the crew.

The 121 foot long ship Cap Blanc left Argentia Newfoundland after loading salt late Monday or early Tuesday for the 12 hour voyage, but capsized and sank.
