A.P. Moller - Maersk Group said its Odense Steel Shipyard has named its latest newbuilding, a 7,000 TEU containership, Mette Maersk.

It is the fourth in a series of six M-class container ships, and was named in a ceremony in Lindo on Saturday by Yumiko Arakawa, wife of Shoshi Arakawa, chairman of the board, chief executive and president of Bridgestone Corp.

The ship incorporates a number of features to make it more environmentally friendly and economic, including a waste heat recovery system and 12-cylinder Wartsila RT-flex diesel engine that has been optimized for a more efficient and economical service speed.

The company said the ship will enter Maersk Line's worldwide liner service.
