Aug 14, 2008 Shipping

TBS International Ltd. said it has taken delivery of a 1992 built, 38,852-deadweight-ton handymax bulk carrier that it acquired charter-free for $44 million.

With this delivery, TBS's fleet comprises 45 multipurpose tweendecker, handymax and handysize vessels. TBS expects to take delivery of an additional handymax bulk carrier by the end of September.

The new ship will be called Tupi Maiden. TBS names many of its ships after Indian tribes and the Tupi people are a major group of Brazilian indigenous people.
