Cosco’s Xiamen Ocean Shipping Company has ordered two multipurpose carriers in China. The 32,000-dwt vessels are costing CNY 500m ($67.45m) from China State Shipbuilding’s Guangzhou Huangpu Shipbuilding Company.
They will carry bulk cargoes like timber, fertiliser, minerals, cement and steel, as well as heavy machinery. Xiamen Ocean said the ships also have capacity for dangerous goods.
The first ship, named Du'an Cheng, will serve the route between Asia and the US in 2009, while the second, Ning'an Cheng, will serve the Asia to Central and South America run upon delivery in the same year.
