According to Fairplay, a 5,500 TEU container ship hit the San Francisco-Oakland bridge yesterday morning, spilling 200 tonnes of oil.
“Cosco Busan”, on charter to Hanjin since 2001, was leaving the port of San Francisco and heading for Busan. The collision, which took place in dense fog while the vessel was under pilotage, left a 50 m gash in the hull. The bridge was largely undamaged and there were no casualties.
The ship is owned and operated by Synergy Maritime. All crew on board are employed by the shipowner.
