Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering has announced another monster order for nine boxships at its Romanian facility. A mystery European owner has penned the firm order for the 5,500-teu vessels at Daewoo Mangalia Heavy Industries for a total spend of $855m, the yard group said on Monday.
According to TradeWinds, Daewoo Mangalia president and chief executive Lee Jae-Bong would not reveal the identity of the owner citing confidentiality clauses in the contract, but said all would be revealed in a week’s time. He added that the owner is a first time customer of Daewoo Mangalia.
Lee said the first vessel would roll out of the yard in the first quarter of 2011 with the rest following at one-and-a-half to two month intervals up until June 2012.
