New vehicle in container service to Puerto Rico

The Horizon Logistics subsidiary of Horizon Lines Inc. said it has been named carrier of choice for a new automotive vehicle shipping service launched by DAS Global Services (DASGS) in the U.S. mainland-Puerto Rico trade lane.

DASGS is the international division of Dependable Auto Shippers, a company that specializes in domestic and international vehicle relocation, moving some 100,000 vehicles, boats, RVs, heavy equipment and motorcycles per year.

With the help of Horizon Logistics, DASGS has started a weekly service from Port Elizabeth, N.J., to San Juan, Puerto Rico. Shipments depart every Friday and arrive in San Juan the following Tuesday, making vehicles available on Thursday the same week of arrival.

DASGS is employing a Horizon Logistics Web portal, and has a similar containerized service in the Hawaii market that handles more than 2,700 vehicles per year via a Horizon Lines service.
