One killed, 4 injured in Cargo vessel fire accident

Port Blair, June 10 (UNI) The second engineer of a ship was killed and four other crew members sustained burn injuries when fire broke out in a cargo vessel berthed at Andaman抯 Haddo Wharf this evening.


The Cargo Ship M V Bay Island is reportedly owned by Ellon Hinlago Limited (EHL) of Andaman, Fire-Bridge sources said.


However, sources said the fire was brought under control within few hours.


Superintendent of Police Ashok Chand told newspersons that according to preliminary inquiry, the fire broke out when repairing work was going on in the air conditioning unit of the ship.


The injured had been admitted to the G B Pant Hospital.


Meanwhile, a case has been registered at P S Chatham, the S P added.
