Danaos Corp. said it has sold a 30-year-old containership for $15.8 million, booking profits of $9.8 million as a result of the transaction. It did not identify the buyer.
The ship being sold was the Maersk Constantia, formerly the SA Waterberg, which was one of a group of four Safmarine ships once known as the Big Whites because of the color of their hulls.
Danaos said the vessel was already past its depreciable life and was fast approaching its expected scrapping date.
