TBS International Ltd. said it has agreed to buy a 40,902-deadweight-ton handymax bulk carrier called the Desert Explorer for $35.5 million.

The company said the 1985-built ship, to be renamed Fox Maiden, is expected to be delivered in the third quarter.

Following this acquisition and the deliveries of the previously announced vessels, TBS's fleet will comprise 45 vessels with an aggregate of 1.25 million dwt -- 23 tweendeckers and a combination of 22 handymax/handysize bulk carriers.
