Changjiang Shipping To Construct Shipbuilding Base In Chongqing

China Changjiang National Shipping (Group) Corporation, the largest inland river shipping company in the country, recently invested 300 million yuan (US$40 million) to transform and expand the capacity of its subsidiary Changhang Dongfeng Shipping Company in Chongqing, southwest China, in a bid to build it into the group's shipbuilding and export base.

The transformed Changhang Dongfeng Shipping Company will build 10,000 dwt (deaweight tonne) ships, special vessels and ships for export. After expansion, it will be able to build eight 10,000dwt ships at the same time.

Changhang Dongfeng has received international orders amounting to 1.6 billion yuan this year for building 30-odd vessels. It is also talking on orders for building 48 vessels valued at 4.6 billion yuan.
