"K" LINE (Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha) has appointed its vice president Jiro Asakura as president and CEO of the group following the resignation and departure of Kenichi Kuroya last week.

A year after graduating from a law degree from Kobe University in 1973, Mr Asakura joined "K" Line and a decade later moved to its Hong Kong office. He was general manager for its coal and iron ore carrier group between 2000-2005. After that, he joined the management board in various roles including managing executive officer and representative director until March 2011.

Mr Asakura stepped up from his month-long vice president position where his key responsibilities were in assisting the CEO and to oversee the drybulk and energy transportation sector.
