May 23, 2008 Shipping

Vietnam's financial and banking, healthcare and shipbuilding industries are now in need of qualified employees, local newspaper Vietnam Economic Times reported Wednesday.

Banks in Vietnam annually need 15,000 university graduates, but educational and training institutions can churn out only 11,000 each year.

According to the estimation of Vietnam's Education and Training, the country's shipbuilding industry needs 10,000-15,000 new staff each year in the 2008-2015 period, but 40-60 percent of the manpower demand can be met. Now, over 5,700 local students study shipbuilding at six universities and colleges.

Vietnam, targeting to have 1.5 druggists per 10,000 residents by 2010, currently has only 0.2 druggists per 10,000 people, according to the country's Health Ministry.

Vietnam has over 241,500 health workers now. Educational establishments nationwide annually turn out some 24,000 health workers, including 6,200 university graduates. About 12,000 local health workers retire each year.
