OOCL reports strong first quarter

Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) saw its first quarter cargo volume increasing by 12.6 percent over the first three months of last year.


In a quarterly operational update, the Hong Kong-based carrier said total revenue had grown by 17.2 percent to US$1.32 billion. Average revenue per TEU rose 4.2 percent.


With a 16.8 percent increase in loadable capacity, the overall load factor was 2.9 percent lower than the same period in 2010.


Liftings for the carrier rose across all its major trade routes. On the transpacific, liftings grew 9.7 percent, Asia-Europe they rose 8.3 percent, Intra-Asia and Australasia increased by 17.1 percent and transatlantic rose 4.3 percent.


OOCL cautioned investors that the quarterly results were unaudited.
