Apr 18, 2011 Shipping

SWIRE Shipping has announced a major upgrade to its service coverage from South East Asia to Papua New Guinea with the deployment in late April of an additional 1,100-TEU vessel (13,600 dwt) to its existing shuttle service, with both ships making direct port calls into Port Moresby.

"The deployment of this additional vessel allows a service upgrade that will not only give our customers additional capacity, service reliability, faster transit times and unrivalled Papua New Guinea port coverage but, when combined with our main service from South East Asia, offers a vessel departure every nine days from South East Asia to Port Moresby," said Adrian Butler, line manager for the service.

In addition to this service for Port Moresby importers, exporters to south east Asia and Europe are expected to benefit from a minimum of two vessel departures every month from Port Moresby, a company statement said.

Swire Shipping said it provides a premium multi-purpose service to and from Papua New Guinea. "With more vessels and greater frequency, our countrywide network of agencies and over 60 years of experience in Papua New Guinea, we are uniquely positioned to provide shipping solutions to any business," added Toby Smith, general manager for Swire Shipping's liner trades.
