SOUTHWEST China's Guangxi Autonomous Region plans to raise capacity of its port cluster at the Beibu Gulf (Gulf of Tonkin) to over 330 million tonnes by the end of 2015 and the shipping capacity of the Xijiang river to over 150 million tonnes, according to Xinhua's report.
According to Guangxi's development plan, it will invest more than CNY7 billion (US$1.1 billion) this year on terminal and navigation channel projects at the Beibu Gulf Port, and will turn the port into a south China shipping hub for ASEAN trade.
In the past five years, from 2006 to 2010, Guangxi launched 100 new harbour and shipping projects, completed with others still under construction.
