JIANGSU province's port of Taicang lifted 175,200 TEU in January, up 44.4 per cent year on year with import cargo surpassing 1,000 TEU for the first time as the port's overall throughput increased 31.4 per cent to 7.5 million tonnes, Xinhua reports.
The robust increase in import cargo container volume was brought by the surge of wood imports. There were 199 batches of containerised wood import in January, totalling 1,147 TEU, up 123 per cent year on year, valuing US$8.5 million.
Port of Taicang currently has a cargo throughput capacity of 97.8 million tonnes and a container capacity of 4.4 million TEU. It is operating 83 container lines, including two ocean shipping lines and 10 short-sea shipping operations, calling at 18 ports in US, Mexico and Guatemala.
