May 21, 2008 Shipping

Euroseas Ltd. on Monday said it agreed to buy the Maersk Noumea, a 34,677-deadweight-ton, 2,556-TEU containership for $43.5 million.

The Maersk Noumea, which was built in 2001 in South Korea, comes with a period charter with a major container liner company at $16,800 per day until August 2011.

The charter also includes options for three additional years at $18,735, $19,240 and $19,750 per day, respectively. The vessel is to be delivered May 21.

Following this acquisition, all of Euroseas containerships are chartered for 2008. About 47 percent of its containership charter days for 2009 are fixed under period charters.

The Euroseas fleet now comprises 16 ships: 10 containerships, five dry bulk ships, and one multipurpose ship.
