DEMAND for ocean liner services will grow steadily, according to MOL chairman Akimitsu Ashida, who was delivering the keynote speech at the Japan Securities Summit in New York, an event co-sponsored by the Japan Securities Dealers Association (JSDA) and the Securities Financial Markets Association (SIFMA).

Chairman Ashida outlined MOL's strategies to maximise its competitiveness in the industry, including its ocean shipping management portfolio, before an audience of about 180 people that included front-line economists and analysts, institutional investors, and other financial industry specialists, who actively generated topics for discussion.

Keynote speakers since the first Japan Securities Summit was held in London in 2008 were Heizo Takenaka, professor at Keio University, former Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications and Minister of State for Privatisation of the Postal Services; Hiroshi Okuda, senior advisor, Toyota Motor Corporation, Hong Kong, 2009 and Masahiro Sakane, chairman, Komatsu Ltd, Singapore, 2010.

Chairman Ashida's speech reflects MOL's proactive approach to offering information to stakeholders under the theme of "promoting an open and visible management style" that is set out in the MOL Group's Corporate Principles, a company statement said.
