Hapag-Lloyd offers Taicang-Yangshan-Waigaoqiao barge service

Mar 8, 2011 Shipping

GERMAN shipping giant Hapag-Lloyd will start a container barge service on March 28 to move cargo from Taicang Port upstream on the Yangtze 60 miles from Shanghai, calling at the deep water port of Yangshan and the Waigaoqiao River terminals.

The barge service will be run in partnership with Hapag-Lloyd's booking agent in Taicang, Jiangsu Uniwill Logistics. It connects with all routes except the transpacific. The service will be offered at US$100 per TEU, reports the American Shipper.

Before this development, The Containership Company start-up offered the only direct service between Taicang and North America, known as the Great Dragon shuttle service from Taicang to Los Angeles, which since its launch last April now calls at the ports of Ningbo and Qingdao as well.
