LAST year, south eastern China's Fujian province recorded 8.2 million tonnes of transshipments from the bordering province of Jiangxi, up 272 per cent from 2.18 million tonnes in 2007, representing a rate of increase of 55 per cent a year, Xinhua reports.
As of 2010, Fujian has had 439 seaport berths in operation, 122 are over 10,000 tonnes, generating a container capacity 12.8 million TEU, or a cargo capacity of 320 million tonnes. Its seaports can accommodate 150,000-tonne containerships, 300,000-tonne oil tankers and 150,000-tonne bulk carriers.
Provincial seaports has been operating shipping services to over 140 ports in more than 60 countries. 315 are container shipping services, offering 2,000 sailings per month.
