50000 DWT semi-submersible vessel Xiang Yun Kou delivered

On January 20th, 2011, the christening and delivery ceremony of 50000 dwt semi-submersible ship Xiang Yun Kou was grandly held at the Longxue shipbuilding base in Guangzhou. Capt. Wei Jiafu, President and CEO of COSCO Group, and Mr. Tan Zuojun, Managing Director of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, were present at the ceremony.


The LOA of the vessel is 216.7 meters long with open cargo deck 178 meters length by 43 meters breadth, even larger than a standard football field. Taking full bunkering, its endurance is 18000 nautical miles.


The vessel is equipped with dual independent engine rooms and dual propeller electric propulsion systems. Meanwhile it is also fitted with the most state-of-the-art ballast water system, which greatly reduces time and risk in loading and discharging. These advanced appliances and equipments maximally ensure the safety of ship and cargo and utterly meet the special needs for safety in transport of large marine engineering products.


The shipbuilding contract for two 50000 dwt semi-submersible vessels was signed between COSCOL and GSI on 30 October 2007. MV. Xiang Yun Kou is the first vessel and the other one is expected to be delivered in June this year.
