Mexican port authority API Lazaro Cardenas has launched a tender to build and operate a second container terminal at Lazaro Cardenas port on the Pacific coast, according to Business News America.
Interested firms have until March 14 to purchase tender documents and a site visit is scheduled for March 28-31, according to a tender notice published in the official gazette.
Bids are due on August 25 and API plans to award the tender on October 18, signing a contract for the concession on November 17.
The project involves developing an 850,000 sq m area, which could be expanded by an additional 170,000 sq m and construction of a specialised container terminal (TEC II). The winning firm will provide port services under a 30-concession contract.
The terminal is expected to require an estimated US$498 million investment, and will have capacity to handle twomillion TEUs annually.
The container terminal tender is the second largest project to get underway this year at Lazaro Cardenas. Hong-Kong based.
Hutchison Port Holdings (HPH) said earlier this month it would begin the second phase of its $400 million container terminal expansion, which involves building a new 330m dock.
