KOREA's Hanjin Shipping will kick off Chinese New Year with the entry of four 8586-TEU ships on its transpacific PSX loop, which will replace existing 7,471 TEU vessels.
This 10 per cent increase of capacity on the CKYH service comes as these new ships have taken from lay-up since they were built early last year at the Hyundai Samho Heavy Industry yards.
The first ships to enter service will be the Hanjin Hamburg and Hanjin New York, are the second and the third of the series of five 8,600-TEU class ships received from Hyundai.
According to Hanjin Shipping, the vessels will be deployed in the carrier's PSX (Pacific South Express) service soon after the delivery, at the end of January.
"We are confident that the deployment of these large, state-of-the-art vessels will improve schedule reliability and enhance our customer service," said Hanjin's container chief, deputy president WW Lee.
"We are now in the process of establishing an optimum fleet portfolio by investing in various sizes of containerships ranging from 4,000 TEU to 10,000 TEU," he said.
