Pirates hijack cargo ship in the Indian Ocean

The Thai-flagged MV THOR NEXUS laden with 20,377 tons of general cargo was attacked Suturday, Dec.25 by pirates approximately 450 nautical miles North East of the island of Socotra in the Indian Ocean, EU NAVFOR press release said.


The ship with the 27 crew (all from Thailand) was on her way to Bangladesh from Jebel Ali in the UAE at the time of the attack. As of now, there have been no details of the attack reported.


There are now 25 vessels and 601 hostages being held by pirates off the coast of Somalia, EUNAVFOR webside reminds.
