HYUNDAI Heavy Industries has announced that it has signed a deal with German's Hapag-Lloyd to build ten 13,100-TEU containerships for US$1.45 billion, the firm's largest single shipbuilding order this year.
On the same day, Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering said it won a $1 billion deal from a southeast Asian country to build five naval vessels. The deal brings the firm's total orders for this year to $10.9 billion, surpassing its target of $10 billion, reported Korea's Chosunilbo.
STX Offshore and Shipbuilding and STX Dalian Shipbuilding also signed a deal with STX Pan Ocean to build 20 57,000-ton pulp carriers for $912 million.
