Containership refloated off Australia

May 12, 2008 Shipping

A containership that ran aground Friday morning as it was leaving the Port of Melbourne, Australia, has been refloated.

Press reports say the Francoise Gilot, a 1,341-TEU containership operated by the ANL subsidiary of CMA CGM, ran onto a sandbar after losing power. But the ship was able to regain power and was off a sandbar within three hours.

Press reports say the captain, first officer and helmsman were breath-tested and all tested negative for alcohol.

The ship was heading for an anchorage where it will be assessed for damage.

The ship is named after a French-born painter who was also a companion of Picasso.
