Chongqing set to be China's number one shipbuilding steel plate centre

Shanghai: Dong Lin, general director of Chongqing-based Chinese steelmaker Chongqing Iron and Steel Group (Chongqing Steel), has stated that the group is currently building China’s largest shipbuilding steel production base.

In the first half year of 2010, Chongqing Steel’s shipbuilding steel facility in Dadukou was relocated to Changshou New District, idling 1.2 million mt of production capacities. Stage 1 of the facilities in the new location will start production operations in June 2011 as scheduled, with a designed annual output capacity of 6.5 million mt.
