May 12, 2008 Shipping

Niche transatlantic operator Independent Container Line has become a member of the World Shipping Council, the liner shipping industry association headquartered in Washington, D.C.

Richmond, Va.-based ICL recently joined the WSC's counterpart in Brussels, the European Liner Affairs Association.

The carrier operates four vessels averaging 1,550 TEUs on a single service calling Antwerp; Liverpool; Chester, Pa.; Richmond; Chester; and back to Antwerp.

The WSC said its members -- a full list of which can be found at www.worldshipping.org/mem.html -- control more than 90 percent of the global liner vessel capacity.
