HONG KONG's Kerry Logistics has acquired ADCO Shipping and Forwarding, a privately held Rotterdam company specialising in ocean freight forwarding.

The addition will strengthen Kerry's base in northern Europe and complement its existing network of offices across the continent, said a company statement.

"We will be able to expand the range of logistics services we offer Holland, Belgium and Germany," said Kerry Logistics European managing director Gary Wilcock.

"ADCO also operates warehousing and distribution services from Rotterdam in addition to inbound de-consolidation and outbound container loading. This will support Kerry Logistics' aim to provide a range of supply chain solutions throughout northern Europe both inbound and outbound," the statement said.

Kerry said its long-term objective is to strengthen its European base and to provide better coverage and volumes for the company's network in Asia and beyond. "Rotterdam is the largest multipurpose port in Europe and many European and US [multinational companies] MNCs choose Benelux as their distribution hub in Europe," said the Kerry statement.

The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Hong Kong-listed Kerry Properties Limited and its core business includes integrated logistics, freight forwarding and supply chain solutions. The company manages facilities over more than 2.2 million square miles, served by a fleet of 8,000 trucks in 24 countries run by 12,000 staff.
