STATISTICS from the Nanjing customs showed that Jiangsu's ship exports in the first 10 months jumped 58.5 per cent year on year to US$11 billion, Xinhua reported.
The province's ship export had been falling since hitting a peak in May 2009, but rebounded in October with a value of $1.3 billion, up 160 per cent year on year and 46.8 per cent month on month.
These ships are mainly exported to Europe countries, Latin America, Hong Kong and Africa. Export to the EU valued $3.9 billion, up 43.2 per cent year on year, taking up 35.3 per cent of the province's ship export total. Those to Latin America valued $1.8 billion, soaring 400 per cent. Exports to Hong Kong rose 78.1 per cent in value to $1.4 billion. Exports to Africa jumped 160 per cent to 1.1 billion.
Processed ship exports valued $10.9 million, up 60.8 per cent, accounting for 99 per cent of the total of Jiangsu's ship export value.
State-owned ship makers' exports grew 52.3 per cent to $5.1 billion. Foreign-invested makers' ship exports increased 46.2 per cent to $3.8 billion. Exports of these two types of shipbuilders accounted for 80.5 per cent of the total. Private shipbuilders' exports surged 110 per cent to $2.1 billion.
Containership exports increased 27.1 per cent to $1.3 billion. Bulk ship exports surged 170 per cent to $6.7 billion.
