Winter doldrums: CSCL, Evergreen to scrap transpac loop

Nov 19, 2010 Shipping

CSCL and Evergreen will scrap their joint China-Pacific Southwest (PSW) service (AAC2/CPS2) in December with a last sailing from Qingdao on December 4.

The service deploys five 2,500- to 4,200-TEU ships, two of which are provided by CSCL and three by Evergreen, with an average weekly capacity of 3,890 TEU, reports Alphaliner. The service, launched last May, calls at Qingdao, Shanghai, Ningbo, Oakland, Los Angeles and returns to Qingdao.

"Apart from the withdrawal of peak-season extra loaders, this is the first regular service on the transpacific which is to be withdrawn for this winter season," said Alphaliner.

The move comes as CSCL has been offering a paired sailing on the AEX1/CEM string, calling at Shanghai, Ningbo, Shenzhen-Yantian, Felixstowe, Hamburg and Rotterdam.

"Two ships of 5,500 TEU will run side by side to offer a single sailing with a capacity which is about equivalent to that of the remaining 8,000- to 10,000-TEU vessels on the loop which is jointly operated with Evergreen," said the report.
