Nov 18, 2010 Shipping

MARSEILLES' CMA CGM has announced the extension of its Black Pearl service to the west coast of South America, covering Ecuador, Peru, Panama and Chile from December 12.

"This service not only offers extended coverage of the areas served but also numerous connections to the Caribbean Rim, east coast of South America and the Far East - thanks to seamless relay in Kingston and Balboa," said CMA CGM vice president for Caribbean and Latin American Jean-Yves Duval.

The upgrade is in response to growing demand for trade between the US and west coast South America, which has risen 23.5 per cent year on year, said the company statement.

Deploying six 1,100-TEU ships, the renewed Black Pearl service will call at New York, Halifax, Kingston, Cartagena, Punta Manzanillo, Balboa, Guayaquil, Callao, Arica, San Antonio, Callao, Guayaquil, Punta Manzanillo, Kingston, Miami, Philadelphia and back to New York.
