NOL box unit experiences 29pc rate rise in September-October

SINGAPORE's Neptune Orient Lines (NOL), parent company of container shipping line APL, has announced that rates averaged US$2,916 per FEU in the four-week period ending October 15, representing an increase of 29 per cent compared to the same period in 2009.


Freight rates have, however, declined for the second month in a row since peaking at an average of $3,181 in the four weeks ending August 20.


NOL said volumes in the October 15 period were one per cent higher than in the same 2009 period. NOL said that year to date, volumes have been 25 per cent higher than last year and rates have been up 22 per cent.
