Wan Hai Lines container vessel Wan Hai 233 rescued four crew members of a bulk carrier last week after receiving a distress call from the vessel, the Taiwanese carrier revealed yesterday.
The vessel received an SOS from Panama bulk vessel Jian Fu Star at 7:00am on October 27 while it was on its way from Keelung port in Taiwan to Manila, Philippines. The Wan Hai vessel changed course and headed at full speed toward the bulk carrier.
The bulk carrier sank off the coast of South Cape, Taiwan after sending the SOS. Wan Hai 233 rescued four crew members from the sea. Other ships were also on the way for the rescue mission, including Yellow Sea, a charter vessel of Wan Hai Lines, which rescued four more crew member drifting in the sea. Two of the rescued crew members were picked up by helicopter and the other two remained on board Yellow Sea and got off at Pusan port, South Korea, for medical care.
There were 25 crew members on board the bulk carrier and 12 were rescued.
