COSCO Kaohsiung christened in Taiwan and COSCO Taiwan office launched

24 October 2010, the maiden voyage and christening ceremony of M.V.COSCO Kaohsiung, a 10,000 TEU container vessel owned and operated by COSCO Container Lines, were held in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The ceremony was attended by Captain Wei Jiafu, President & CEO of COSCO Group, Hon. Lian Zhan, Honorary Chairman of KMT and his wife Ms. Lian Fangyu, Hon. Lin Fong-cheng, Vice-chairman of KMT, Li Liangsheng, Vice-president of Association for Shipping Exchanges Across Taiwan Strait, Xu Lirong, Vice-president of COSCO Group, Shi Zemin, COSCO's Chief Representative in Taiwan, Executives of COSCO's related subsidiaries and more than 300 distinguished local guests.  
In his remark at the ceremony, Captain Wei said following the maiden voyages made by M.V. Oceania and M.V. Yuanhe to the port of Kaohsiung, COSCO has strictly abided by its commitment to name a 10,000 TEU container vessel after "COSCO Kaosiung". With the signing of ECFA, COSCO will render its continued support for the port of Kaohsiung as a regional hub port linking the local market with the rest of the world. Meanwhile, COSCO is committed to promoting the shipping exchanges across Taiwan straits and facilitating trade and economic ties in between the two sides of the straits. The launch of COSCO's representative office in Taiwan, said Captain Wei, indicates a more convenient and efficient communication between COSCO and its partners in Taiwan, which in turn will help facilitate COSCO's service in the local market and contribute to the prosperity of maritime ties across Taiwan straits.    
Hon. Lian Zhan expressed his congratulations in his speech for the opening of COSCO's Taiwan Representative Office and the christening of COSCO Kaohsiung, which he regarded, as beneficial opportunities for the local economy. 
M.V. COSCO Kaohsuing was christened by Ms. Lian Fangyu, wife of Hon. Lian Zhan, honorary Chairman of KMT. Ms. Lian wished the ship and its crew a safe and successful sailing throughout the oceans.
At the ceremony, the unveiling of COSCO's Taiwan Representative Office was jointly conducted by Captain Wei Jiafu and Hon. Lian Zhan.
