NYK first half revenue increased

Nov 1, 2010 Shipping

Japanese shipping giant NYK's first half revenue increased 27 per cent year on year to US$12 billion with net profit hitting $529 million against last year's $361 million loss, the company announced.
Operating profit was $1 billion, a contrast to the loss of $456 million that was recorded during the same period last year. This led to a healthy return on sales of 8.5 per cent against last year's 4.6 per cent loss.
Improved results were attributed to container rates having risen and the company consequently upwardly revised its July forecast for its full fiscal year to expecting 6.6 per cent better revenue and 11.8 per cent more net profit.
NYK did not release first half financial information on its container business.
