FOLLOWING a seven-member delegation of the Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (REAP) to Kenya 800 containers of long-grain Irri-6 rice were released after a three-month detainment for laboratory analysis without telling the shippers.

REAP chairman Irfan Ahmed Shaikh said the details of the negotiations for the rice export, which amounts to an annual value of US$2 billion for Pakistan, will not be released until the return of the delegation.

Previously issued Kenya Bureau of Standards certificates were no longer accepted by the port claiming the rice was sub-standard and required a new analysis on grading, reports Pakistan Express Tribune, affiliated with the International Herald Tribune.
