OOCL Panama christened

Orient Overseas Container Line on Thursday named a 4,500-TEU Panamax vessel in honor of the Panama Canal at Samsung Heavy Industries?Geoje shipyard in South Korea.

Guests at the naming ceremony for the OOCL Panama were Alberto Alem Zubieta, Panama Canal Authority administrator and chief executive officer, and his wife Ana Matilde Arias de Alem.

We are very honored to name our newest vessel after such a fascinating and historically important part of the world,?said C.C. Tung, chairman and chief executive officer of OOIL, parent of OOCL.

The vessel will initially be deployed on the Asia-Australia AEA2 service, which has a port rotation of Yokohama, Osaka, Busan, Qingdao, Shanghai, Ningbo, Xiamen, Hong Kong, Kaohsiung, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and back to Yokohama in a 42-day round trip.
