Nokian introduces new straddle carrier tyre

Nokian Heavy Tyres has introduced a revolutionary ‘all-new’ structural construction for its HTS Straddle radial tyre, combining durability, high load-bearing capacity and driver comfort.

The multi-layer tyre body features an ultra-durable textile structure that maximises the stiffness of the body to provide stability, even at high speeds. The first size in the new product family is 16.00R25, the most common tyre size of 8-wheeled straddle carriers.

Improved wear resistance and durability of the HTS Straddle is in a special rubber compound particularly tailored for use on even, as well as uneven or rough surfaces in a maritime terminal environment.

The winding shape of the main grooves in the tread enlarges the cooling area to reduce heat generation that accelerates tyre wear. Moreover, the winding groove design increases lateral stability in the shoulder area, an important factor when driving heavy loads.

The volume and winding design of the tread combined with the small lateral grooves, efficiently displacing water from under the tyre.

"Thanks to the improved stability provided by the HTS Straddle, machines can safely achieve higher average speeds and a precise steering response in cramped, busy loading areas,” said Martti Päivinen, product development manager of Nokian Heavy Tyres.
