AUSTRALIAN flag carrier Qantas has announced an additional six weekly services on its Perth-Sydney route, to commence from July this year taking the total frequency on this route from 48 to 54 return flights per week to support customers travelling at peak business times.

"This improved schedule will see a greater service offering for our customers on one of our key domestic Cityflyer routes," said Qantas Western Australia general manager Ian Gay.

The new services will operate daily from Perth-Sydney from Monday to Saturday departing at 0705 hrs and Sydney-Perth service departures from Sunday to Friday at 1510 hrs.

Mr Gay said the new services on the route will allow customers the option to fly from Sydney-Perth in mid-afternoon to allow customers to chose to travel to Perth on three afternoon services, midday, 1510 hrs or early evening 1650 hrs.

The new services are part of Qantas' ongoing commitment to Western Australia, and follow the recent commencement of Melbourne-Karratha and Sydney-Karratha services as well as significant capacity increases from Perth to the state's mining and energy destinations.

Qantas has also invested A$75 million (US$64.5 million) in the redevelopment of its domestic terminal at Perth Airport, including a stand-alone security facility, additional quick-check kiosks and baggage carousels, further aerobridge capability, expanded seating and the refurbishment of the Qantas Club lounges.
